Recruiting. It really is about writing the future. Things going great now? Let’s have more of it. Team in a slump? Next year’s prize recruits will change all that.
Of course, not every prized recruit will turn out to be a superstar or even a significant contributor, just as not every vision of the future turns out to be 100% (or even 1%) accurate. Just take a look at this Disney film from 1958.
But for fans, that’s OK. Recruiting is all about potential and possibilities. There’s plenty of time for the reality of competition to weigh in. For now, it’s about the future.
Who’s going to be writing Penn State’s future?
For 2011, the Nittany Lions have three reported verbal commitments, shown in the table below (it’s sortable by Name, Position, Height, etc.) Assuming these three athletes do, in fact, sign with Penn State (verbal commitments are just that — verbal, and non-binding), their Penn State futures won’t arrive until 2011. Until then, we wish them all the success in the world, and imagine great things in the future.
