Lions Hand Hoosiers Home Loss

What could have been a trap match — fresh off the 3-1 victory over Purdue on Friday night, and looking ahead to the Wisconsin match this coming Wednesday — wasn’t, as #1-ranked Penn State swept Indiana (25-21, 25-13, 25-15) on Saturday night, for a 9-1 record in the B1G at the half-way point of the conference schedule, tied with Nebraska for 1st place.

Of note: 6-3 Sr. MB Haleigh Washington reached the 1,000 career kill mark (the 28th Nittany Lion in that club — joining her teammates Ali Frantti and Simone Lee.)  Washington led the team with 13 kills (.800 hitting %!!) with 5 digs and a block. 6-2 Sr. RS/Opp Heidi Thelen registered  7 kills on 8 errorless swings (.875 hitting %!!!), while 6-2 RS So. MB Tori Gorrell chipped in with 4 kills, hitting .571 and totaling a team-best 5 blocks.

For Indiana, 6-2 RS So. OH Kendall Beerman and 6-0 Fr. OH Kamryn Malloy each totaled 7 kills, and  6-0 So. setter Victoria Brisack recorded 30 assists, 5 digs and 2 aces.

IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan said “What I told the team is that we want to be the best version of ourselves. I thought we did that in stretches, especially in the first set tonight and showed the aggressiveness and focus we want to play with.”
