Nice People Cheering for a Great Program

We first became aware of the Penn State Women’s Volleyball Booster Club (PSWVBC) in 2000 or 2001, but it took us several years (we can be very slow on the uptake) to put two-and-two together and recognize what a terrific job the PSWVBC does to make the home matches even more special, to show support for the exceptional players who have represented Penn State over the past decades with excellence on the court, in the classroom and in the community, and of course to show appreciation to Head Coach Russ Rose and his amazing coaching staff.

In short, we think they do an extraordinary job of achieving the objectives they set for themselves, as listed in the 2012-2013 Season Membership Application:

The primary objective of the Penn State Women’s Volleyball Booster Club is to increase fan support and involvement of alumni, students, and the community in the Penn State women’s volleyball program.

It’s a tall order, but the PSWVBC pulls it off the old-fashioned way — through hours, and hours, and hours of hard work from countless volunteers who give generously of their time throughout the season and the off-season.  For which we give them all a huge Thankyou!

And it pays off for those of us who do nothing but enjoy the fruits of their labors. Here’s what the PSWVBC has to say about what membership offers:

Membership affords the opportunity to interact with team members and coaches at a number of Club sponsored events, including a pre-season picnic, socials after Saturday home matches, Coach’s luncheons on home Fridays, and an annual awards banquet in mid-January. All members with email addresses receive on-line match results.

How to Join the PSWVBC

We’ll be posting an interview with PSWVBC President George Weigand in the coming days, with some insights on the club and the history of the program, but until then, if you’re interested in joining the PSWVBC, take a look at the information below on how to join, the various membership levels, and the calendar of terrific events for the 2012-2013 season.  Membership runs from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.

Membership Levels

There are six membership levels, each with specific benefits. We’ve listed each of the levels below, along with their benefits, so that you can select the level most suited to you:

Honorary Coach (dues – $500.00)

• Newsletters
• membership card
• 2012 Penn State Women’s Volleyball Media Guide
• two 2012 Season Tickets with reserved seating
• two golf shirts,
• name on Honorary Coach’s Recognition Plaque
• for one Saturday home game, attend pre-game meal and practice, and be introduced to the Rec Hall fans at the start of the match.

Captain (dues – $250.00)

Club Events for 2012 / 2013

We’ve attended all four types of events — the Annual Picnic, Coach’s Luncheons, Post-Match Socials, and the Annual Banquet, and each of them has been alot of fun, with the opportunity to hear from the coaches and players, meet with other fans, and generally have a good time talking about Penn State Women’s Volleyball.  Oh, and they all feature food.  Great food.  A good time is had by all.
