Pilots Replace Huskies for Penn State Classic

After news broke last Wednesday that the University of Washington had  cancelled it’s trip to State College for the Penn State Classic (September 14th and 15th), Penn State Head Coach Russ Rose had this to say:

The new television schedule came out and Coach McLaughlin was concerned with traveling and having ample time to prepare his team for a mid-week match.  We hope to have a replacement confirmed as soon as possible.

“As soon as possible” turned out to be almost no time at all.  Though we haven’t seen an official announcement, the official 2012 schedules for both Penn State and the University of Portland indicate that the Pilots will face Penn State, Eastern Illinois, and Duquense in the two-day tournament.  Here’s a screen shot from the Pilot’s website:

We don’t know much about the Pilots, other than that they ended the 2011 season with a record of 8-21 overall and 2-14 in the West Coast Conference, and returning 6-1 OH Ariel Usher received honorable mention All-WCC following the 2011 season.  And 1992 alum Erik Spoelstra is the Head Coach of the  newly-crowned NBA Champions, the Miami Heat.
