Stat Joust: Penn State, Wisconsin and Minnesota; B1G Schedule Update

B1G Schedule Update

For those who were planning on attending the Illinois-Penn State match on Friday, October 10th, it would be wise to alter those plans just a bit: the match is now scheduled for Saturday, October 11th at 4:00 p.m.  We’ll keep our eyes on this one, in case there are further changes.

Stat Joust: Penn State, Wisconsin and Minnesota

Jousting Two KnightsPenn State opens its B1G season this coming Wednesday against Wisconsin, at Madison, in a match that is being billed as a rematch of last season’s NCAA Tournament Finals (which would be totally accurate if last season’s NCAA Finals had been played in Madison, and had been played without Deja McClendon, A. Scott or Katie Slay participating for the Nittany Lions, and without Annemarie Hickey appearing for the Badgers. But why nit pick, right?)

Following that match, Penn State moves on to face Minnesota in Minneapolis on Saturday, which isn’t being billed as a rematch of anything, but which will be a very tough match for the Nittany Lions.

To get us all focused on these two matches, we’ve put together a Stat Joust — comparing how these three teams stack up against the rest of the B1G and where their players rank in individual stat categories. The obvious caveat: they’ve played different teams, so it’s not an apples-to-apples comparison.

But it’s all we have to go on right now, and we think some stats jump out. Like Penn State’s team attack percentage. The fact that Minnesota is #1 in the league in blocking (and Penn State and Wisconsin are #11 and #14, respectively). Micha Hancock’s gaudy serving statistics. And Taylor Morey’s equally gaudy dig stats. And Daly Santana’s very impressive points stats.

So take a look, and judge for yourselves.
