Eden’s Pierce set to take on new challenge

If she took the easier route, the one with more certainty and security, that just wouldn’t be characteristic of Kendall Pierce.

The senior at Eden relishes a challenge. It’s what has pushed her as she became one of the top volleyball players in Western New York and landed her a spot as an invited walk-on at the best women’s collegiate volleyball team in the country.

Pierce could have gone to a number of other places on a full scholarship, including Syracuse. But the opportunity at Penn State, the four-time defending national champion, was too enticing to pass up. She didn’t want to spend one minute asking herself, “What if I took the chance as a walk-on at Penn State?”

Girls volleyball outlook

Eden: The Raiders have won back-to-back New York State Class B titles as well as 12 consecutive 12 Section VI titles. Coach Stephen Pierce was named Co-Coach of the Year in the nation by In 18 seasons, Pierce has molded eight state championship teams.

While those accomplishments are impressive, the Raiders are focused on the task at hand, winning now. Taking them there will be senior outside hitter Kendall Pierce, who was a finalist for last year’s state Gatorade Player of the Year.

Kendall’s sophomore sister, Lainy, is already on the radar of many Division I coaches. RS Tori Eschner will take on the setting duties. Eden will compete in Class C this year. The Raiders won Saturday’s St. Mary’s Tournament, beating the Lancers in the final.
